MICROBE-LIFT® Commercial Septic and Grease Trap
MICROBE-LIFT® Eliminates Oil, Grease, and Hydrogen Sulfide in Aarhus Pump Wells and Sewage Pipes
Location: Aarhus, Denmark
Project Type: Wastewater Pipeline Treatment
Year: 2019–2021
Aarhus Vand, a local water company, faced frequent maintenance issues in pump wells and wastewater pipelines due to high accumulation of fats, oil, grease, and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) from restaurant effluent. MICROBE-LIFT® bacteria were applied in two pump wells (Thors Mølle and Skovmøllen) and a 900 m sewage pipeline in Jægergårdsgade to reduce deposits and odors.
The treatment involved scheduled inoculations followed by daily maintenance dosing. Within months, approximately 95% of oil and grease deposits were removed, and pipelines were restored to clear flow. Hydrogen sulfide levels dropped dramatically, reducing foul odors and associated health risks. Maintenance frequency decreased, and residents and businesses reported immediate improvements in air quality. The microbial treatment proved effective, safe, and sustainable for long-term wastewater management.

Microbe-Lift® Enhances Wastewater Treatment in Meat Processing Plant
Location: Philippines
Project Type: Food Processing Wastewater Treatment
Year: 2025
This case study involved an ISO 22000 certified meat processing plant in the Philippines generating 300–350 m³/day of wastewater. The existing modified activated sludge system, including an oil separator, equalization tank (EQT), SBR, chlorination, and sludge digester, struggled with high oil, grease, and solids accumulation, preventing compliance with effluent guidelines.
Microbe-Lift IND was applied to the EQT and SBR tanks, alongside SBR cycle adjustments. Within weeks, significant improvements were observed in wastewater treatment efficiency, including reduced oil, grease, and organic load, while phosphate and ammonia levels stabilized. The treatment prevented costly system upgrades and ensured compliance with discharge regulations, demonstrating an effective and economical wastewater management solution for the food processing industry.
MICROBE-LIFT® Technology Reduces Lift Station Maintenance in California City
Location: Kerman, California, USA
Project Type: Municipal Wastewater
Year: 2012
Kerman, California, a fast-growing city of 14,000 located west of Fresno, faced severe grease build-up in its collection system and lift stations, leading to expensive and time-consuming maintenance. The system included 25 grease traps feeding two lift stations that emptied into five ponds before a final 48 MG pond used for irrigation. Traditional maintenance methods were ineffective, and grease layers of 2–3 feet had accumulated, impacting lift station efficiency and creating odor issues.
Ecological Laboratories implemented MICROBE-LIFT®/IND, beginning with initial doses to the lift stations followed by daily treatments and then weekly maintenance. Within days, the grease and scum layers were significantly reduced, odors minimized, and lift station performance greatly improved. The program eliminated the need for frequent pumping and physical cleaning, enhancing system efficiency and reducing overall maintenance costs.
